Daniel Fridman 1 cropped.jpgThe 2012 German Chess Championships took place from 2-10 March in Osterberg.

The format was a 9-round Swiss Open with a total of 42 players competing. Daniel Fridman scored 7½ points to win by half a point from his nearest rival Igor Khenkin.

Fridman was born in Riga, Latvia and became the Latvian champion in 1996 before moving to Germany in 1999.

Fridman is also a previous winner of the German championship in 2008.

The time control for the 2012 championships was 40 moves in 90 minutes, followed by 30 minutes to finish with a 30 second increment from the start.
