Bio

Marie Sebag is a French grandmaster and two-time national champion. Early in her career, she won the European Youth Championship three times (in the U12, U14, and U16 sections) and shared first place in the Girls U18 World Youth Chess Championship. As a 16-year-old, she made news by defeating 2600-rated GM Laurent Fressinet 2-0 in the semifinals of the Grand Prix de Senat rapid event in 2003. Later, as a 21-year-old, she defeated FIDE World Champion Rustam Kasimdzhanov in a game.

Sebag is the only woman from France to earn the GM title and is the highest-rated female in the country (as of March 2021).
