The purpose of our group is to study one of the most famous books in chess history: "Zurich International Chess Tournament, 1953" by David Bronstein. The tournament was held to select a challenger for then World Champion Mikhail Botvinnik and attracted 15 of the strongest players in the workd, including Smyslov, Geller, Boleslavsky, Bronstein, Najdorf, Szabo, Keres, Kotov, Gligoric, Reshevsky, Taimanov, Euwe, Petrosian, Averbackh, and Stahlberg. In this study group, we will play through the games and discuss Bronstein's excellent commentary. "Beginning and intermediate players...will find David Bronstein's annotations not only perceptive and thorough, but also a veritable textbook on how to play the middle game". We will also include analysis by Miguel Najdorf from his soon-to-be-released (posthumous) text on the same tournament with game-by-game, play-by-play commentary. Should be very interesting!
